Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Winter Fodder Scheme.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

234 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that the district electoral division of a parish (details supplied) in County Clare is included in the winter fodder scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22920/98]

The fodder scheme is directed at all sheep farmers with mountain grazings and suckler cow producers and small dairy farmers, with milk quotas of less than 35,000 gallons, in district electoral divisions in the worst affected areas based on a Teagasc survey published in September. I am giving consideration to the inclusion in the scheme of the DED to which you refer.

Ceist:

235 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason district electoral divisions in north County Westmeath were not included in the recently announced winter fodder scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22921/98]

The fodder scheme is directed at all sheep farmers with mountain grazings and suckler cow producers and small dairy farmers, with milk quotas of less than 35,000 gallons, in district electoral divisions in the worst affected areas based on a Teagasc survey published in September. The same general procedures were applied to selecting the worst affected areas in all counties and on that basis no DED in County Westmeath was deemed eligible for the scheme.
