Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Maternity Services.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

282 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, his Department has to provide funding for a new ultrasound scanning machine for Our Lady of Lourdes Maternity Hospital, Drogheda, County Louth; his views on whether this essential equipment should be available to gynaecologists, obstetricians and radiologists in the public health interest of pregnant mothers and in view of the fact that it is the major maternity hospital in the region; the discussions, if any, with the North-Eastern Health Board on this matter; if so, the outcome in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22736/98]

The North-Eastern Health Board is at present in the process of purchasing a new ultrasound scanning machine for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and hopes to be in a position to commission it in early 1999.
