Weapons handling training on the 60 mm light mortar is continuing but live firing, for training purposes, has ceased pending completion of a court of inquiry following an accident which occurred during firing practices with this weapon on 9 December 1997 at Kilworth Firing Range. The report of the court of inquiry is being considered by the military authorities at present and the outcome will determine whether any further actions need to be taken in the interests of safety.
