142 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the amount of income tax paid by the PAYE, self-employed and farmers for each of the past three years; the estimated amount for 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24199/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the following is the position with regard to the net receipt of income tax for 1996, 1997 and 1998.

The budget amounts paid by each sector must be seen in the context of the relative numbers of taxpayers in the PAYE and self-employed, including farming, sectors.
