289 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science if funding has been sought by his Department in order to provide escorts on buses carrying children with special needs in view of recent comments made on radio; the progress, if any, made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am very much aware of the need to extend the existing escort scheme on special school transport services. I assure the Deputy I am currently giving active consideration to possible measures in this regard. Following this process, I expect to be in a position to make decisions regarding the future scope of this scheme.
