Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Diabetes Federation of Ireland.

John Gormley

Ceist:

219 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children the help, if any, his Department gives to the Diabetes Federation of Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25584/98]

The Irish Diabetes Association is now called the Diabetes Federation of Ireland. My Department is very supportive of the work of the federation, which creates a greater public awareness of the issues relating to diabetes and how prevention and early intervention can reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with the condition. During 1997 and 1998 a total of £56,000 has been provided to the federation through my Department's health promotion unit and from my Department's lottery funding to support its work.
