Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Western Development Commission.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

176 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if County Kerry will be included as part of the remit of the Western Development Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24851/98]

The Western Development Commission was set up in response to proposals emerging from detailed analysis of the particular issues and needs of the western region. Successive Governments have decided that the commission would operate in the region as defined by counties Clare, Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo. As the Bill to establish the commission on a statutory basis has been passed by both Houses I do not intend to extend the remit of the commission to include County Kerry.
