97 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of primary schools which have approached his Department in respect of difficulties in maintaining class size within the guidelines; and the resources available to him to assist schools to stay within the guidelines. [25905/98]
While a record of the number of schools which seek additional teaching resources to enable them to comply with the guidelines on maximum class size is not maintained within my Department, a count is kept of all schools which qualify for additional resources under this heading. In the current school year, sanction has been granted to a total of 33 schools to appoint an additional teacher to enable these schools to organise their classes in compliance with maximum class size guidelines.
