A preliminary report for the south Westmeath water supply scheme, which includes proposals to serve Glasson and Tubberclair along with other areas in south Westmeath, has been submitted to my Department. The infrastructural requirements necessary to supply the areas mentioned include a water treatment works, pipelines, pumping stations and reservoirs. The estimated cost of the South Westmeath water supply scheme is upwards of £23 million of which £4 million approximately would be required to provide a distribution system to Tang/Tubberclair/Glasson. Given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance this scheme.
