Ceisteanna—Questions. - Departmental Telephone Lines.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

1 Mr. Hogan asked the Taoiseach the number and location of fixed telephone lines outside Government Buildings, on which his Department pays the rental and call charges, other than those in the homes of senior officials in his Department. [26354/98]

There are 15 fixed telephone lines outside Government Buildings on which the Department of the Taoiseach pays rental and call charges. Following is the details of these lines. There is one telephone line in my home which is used for fax communications with the Department. There are two telephone lines in the home of the Minister of State, Deputy Seamus Brennan, which are used for communications with his office. The Information Society Commission based in Dublin Castle is under the aegis of this Department and has eight fixed telephone lines on which rental and call charges are paid. There is a fixed telephone line used for fax communications in the home of Ms Justice Catherine McGuinness, Chairperson of the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation. The IT Unit has one leased line, a data line, to facilitate the use of one of the Department's electronic mailing systems, X400. This is used to link to the Department of Finance in Upper Merrion Street. There is a direct line in the Chief Whips Office in Leinster House, which will be used in the future, to allow electronic communication between the Whip Offices in Leinster House and Government Buildings. There is also a leased line linked to Áras an Uachtaráin, for communication between the Taoiseach and the President.
