Vol. 498 No. 3

Written Answers - Sellafield Reprocessing Plant.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

60 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on whether direct Government intervention with her United Kingdom counterparts is the best way of securing the release to the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland of probability risk assessments by British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. in relation to the high level storage plants at Sellafield; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26908/98]

I would refer the Deputy to my response to Question No. 64 on 10 November 1998 on this matter.

Contacts are continuing between the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland and British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. regarding the institute's request for access to relevant information and documentation relating to the safety of the high level waste storage tanks at Sellafield. I will await the outcome of these contacts before deciding on what further course of action, if any, may be required.
