Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

David Stanton

Ceist:

100 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has received a report on the pier and slipway at Knockadoon, County Cork; his views on the condition of the facility; the plans, if any, he has to make funding available to enable remedial works to be carried out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27328/98]

The harbour infrastructure at Knockadoon is owned by Cork County Council and development or maintenance works are, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

Earlier this year Cork County Council requested financial assistance from my Department for proposed improvements to the pier at Knockadoon. It was not possible, having regard to the funding available for works at fishery harbours, to give favourable consideration to the proposal in the current year. The requirements of Knockadoon will, however, receive full consideration in the drawing up of a works programmes for fishery harbours and landing places for 1999.
