Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

John Bruton

Ceist:

166 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a detailed progress report in relation to the extension required at Ashbourne community school, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28192/98]

Tenders for this project are currently being examined in the building unit in my Department. The design team architect has been asked to submit revisions in relation to these tenders. As soon as these revisions are received a decision will be made in relation to further progress.

John Bruton

Ceist:

167 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a detailed progress report in relation to the development of a new community school in Trim, County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28193/98]

Architectural planning for the proposed new school at Trim is well advanced and a planning application has been submitted to the local authorities.

It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence.

168

asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a number of people are objecting to the proposed location of a bus set-down area which has been included in the plans for the new community school, Trim, County Meath; if he will ensure that everything possible will be done to overcome and resolve these objections in order that the new school project will not be unduly delayed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28194/98]

The building unit of my Department is aware of objections to the location of a bus set-down area at the front of the proposed new school at Trim and meetings have been held both in my Department's offices and in Trim in an effort to resolve this issue.

The project design team has also had discussions with the relevant local bodies and it is hoped that the question of the bus set-down-pickup for the students will be resolved in a more integrated review of school bus traffic in the Trim area.
