171 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the deficit of £4,500 for the Leixlip youth project for 1998; if he will sanction further funding to the National Youth Federation to eliminate this deficit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The National Youth Federation currently receives funding from my Department in the form of grant-in-aid on the basis of its overall application under the youth service grant scheme. It is a matter for the NYF to ensure appropriate financial support for its projects and programmes having regard to the overall level of grant-aid made available.
Subject to the approval of the House, I will be making available through a Supplementary Estimate, additional funding of approximately 3 per cent to national youth organisations in respect of the current year.
