50 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance the reason the report on the credit union working group has not been published; when he will publish the report; the plans, if any, he has to act on the recommendations of the group; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28033/98]
As the Deputy knows, earlier this year I established a working group to examine the taxation of returns on credit union savings bearing in mind the special and particular nature of the credit union movement, their contribution to Irish society, and the wider taxation issues involved. I indicated to the House on 17 November 1998 that the independent chairman presented the report of the working group to me on 1 October 1998 and that its contents were being considered.
As I have not yet completed my deliberations on this report I am not in a position, at this stage, to indicated what action, if any, I plan to take on foot of the report and when the report will be published.
