Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment Action Plan.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

158 Mr. Neville asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will outline details of the survey and recommendations carried out by her Department for the provision of employment at a town (details supplied) in County Limerick. [1116/99]

Mayday Management Consultants were commissioned in 1998, to carry out an economic scoping study of Kilmallock for the Kilmallock Association of Trade and Commerce.

The study is supported by Shannon Development, IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and Limerick County Enterprise Board, all of whom are actively involved with Kilmallock Association of Trade and Commerce on the steering group for the study.
In preparing the study, all sectoral activities including tourism, industry, heritage etc. were examined. The study is geared towards community development and is intended to highlight the potential for jobs and economic activity in the area.
Once complete, it should serve as a very useful input to the work of both the association and Shannon Development in pursuing these objectives.
I understand that in December 1998, an interim report was presented to the Kilmallock Association of Trade and Commerce for observations, and these observations will be included in the consultants' final report which is scheduled for completion and presentation to the association in March 1999.
