22 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if approval has been given for the Thurles component of the sewerage scheme for the Suir catchment area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2059/99]
The planning stage of the Thurles sewerage scheme has not been approved for Cohesion Funding and an alternative source of funding has not yet been identified.
However, priority has been accorded to two elements of the scheme which are included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme, which I announced last Monday. The section to provide sewerage services to the Tipperary Rural and Business Development Institute has been included to start construction and improvements to the treatment plant are cleared to be advanced through planning. In addition, the Thurles sewerage scheme – surface water sewer at Ballycurrane Road was approved for funding last year under my Department's serviced land initiative.
