30 Ms McManus asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will publish the required order under section 33 of the Electoral Act, 1997, to set limits on the amounts candidates may incur in the European elections; the limits he intends to impose in this regard; when they will come into operation in view of the imminence of the elections; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I will shortly be laying a Draft Ministerial Order before each House of the Oireachtas for approval specifying the expenditure limit for each candidate at the European Parliament elections. The expenditure limit will operate from the date of the polling day order to the close of the poll. Expenditure on property, goods or services made before the date of the polling day order for use during the election period will also be covered by the limit.
