Written Answers - Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme.
An interdepartmental committee comprising officials of the Departments of Social Community and Family Affairs, Health and Children, Finance and Environment and Local Government is examining the issues which arise in relation to the transfer of the administration of supplementary welfare allowance – SWA – rent and mortgage supplementation scheme from the health board to local authorities.
The transfer of SWA housing supplementation to local authorities gives rise to a number of important issues with wide ranging implications for recipients under the scheme, local authorities and other agencies concerned. It is hoped to finalise the work of the interdepartmental committee at an early date.
