318 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received a report from the group established by his predecessor to consider the direct appointment of solicitors to the High and Supreme Courts; if not, when he expects to receive the group's report; and if he will publish the report. [2670/99]
I assume the Deputy is referring to the working group on qualifications for appointment as judges of the High and Supreme Courts. The Chairman of the Working Group presented the group's report to me towards the end of last year. I have decided to seek the Government's approval to publish the report and have already taken the necessary steps to ensure that the matter will be considered shortly with a view to publishing the report before the end of this month.
