Vol. 499 No. 3

Written Answers - Private Security Industry.

Ceist:

325 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will give details in relation to the licensing of a private detective; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2729/99]

The Government has approved my proposal to give effect to recommendations contained in the report of the Consultative Group on the Private Security Industry for establishment of a statutory framework for regulation of the industry. This would include regulation of persons and companies who operate as private investigators. The proposal now forms part of the Government's legislation programme.

Work on the legislative proposals is at a preliminary stage in my Department but it is my intention to have the heads of the legislation developed as soon as possible.
