Ceist:

339 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has examined an application for funding in the name of Ossory Youth, County Kilkenny; if his Department will give an immediate and positive reply to the application in view of the urgent need to extend the current project to two other areas of disadvantage in Kilkenny city and the requirement for immediate funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin):

The application submitted on behalf of Ossory Youth under the grant scheme for special projects to assist disadvantaged youth is currently being examined by my Department. While I am confident that the increased allocation in the 1999 youth service budget will allow for some expansion of provision under the disadvantaged scheme, it will not be possible to make definitive allocations until such time as my Department has examined all the proposals currently before it.
