Vol. 499 No. 3

Written Answers - Social Welfare Benefits.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

111 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the way in which he proposes to address the conclusions of the Comptroller and Auditor General's report of June 1998 on the administration of supplementary welfare allowances. [2609/99]

The Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs has overall responsibility for the supplementary welfare allowance, SWA, scheme which is administered as part of the community welfare service by the health boards.

Some preliminary discussions have taken place with health board management, community welfare staff and their unions to explore ways to implement the proposals of the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General. These will continue and will be intensified when the report of the interdepartmental committee on the future administration of SWA housing supplements is finalised.
