142 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the areas of responsibility, if any, his Department has with regard to the Government's policy on children; the areas of responsibility, if any, his Department has with regard to the Government's policy on the family; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources (Dr. Woods):

While my Department has no direct role in relation to Government policy on children and the family, the policies being pursued by the Department aim to promote generally the economic and social well-being of communities and families, especially in coastal regions.
