Dáil Éireann díospóireacht -
Tuesday, 2 Feb 1999

Vol. 499 No. 3

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

In view of what the Minister of State, Deputy Kitt, said, and the lack of real assurances on Apple staying in Ireland, this is a timely request under Standing Order 31. My request is that the Dáil be suspended to discuss a matter of grave and national importance, namely industrial action being taken by 700 staff employed by Forfás and Enterprise Ireland, the efforts being made by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to resolve the problem, the need for the industrial relations mechanisms to be utilised fully, the risks to Ireland's efforts to encourage inward investment and threats to any existing and future investments which may arise as a result of the Minister's failure to have all these staff problems resolved prior to the setting up of Enterprise Ireland.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
