Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Gallery.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

76 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she has satisfied herself that developments in the National Gallery of Ireland, including the raising of finances, are being carried out in a transparent manner; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2816/99]

I assume the Deputy is referring to developments in relation to the proposed Clare Street extension to the National Gallery. The development of this site is the responsibility of the National Gallery in the first instance. Having regard to the fact that the project is being part funded by the EU and Exchequer funding, a cost control committee, chaired by the Office of Public Works and comprising representatives from my Department, the Department of Finance and the gallery, has been established to ensure that the project is brought to a successful conclusion within the agreed budget. The raising of private finances is solely a matter for the Board of Governors and Guardians of the National Gallery itself.
