Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

129 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide funding for a home dialysis machine for a person (details supplied) in County Kildare. [2881/99]

The Eastern Health Board has advised me that it has not, up to now, been involved in the direct provision of home dialysis services, as such services are provided by voluntary/acute general hospitals. The board has been working with general practitioners in developing continuing care programmes in the north and south inner city for people with chronic long-term conditions.

The health board would hope to develop these programmes throughout the board's area and the provision of home dialysis services could be an extension of these developments in the future. I am asking the Eastern Health Board, in consultation with the relevant treating hospital, to examine the circumstances and needs of the person mentioned by the Deputy to establish if additional assistance can be provided.
