Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Flood Relief.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

201 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Finance the steps, if any, the Commissioner of Public Works will take to repair the breaches in the bank of the main Shannon river between the lax weir and the metal bridge at Corbally in Limerick city in view of the fact the breaches occurred two years ago and have resulted in almost permanent flooding to hundreds of acres since then. [3653/99]

Under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 the Office of Public Works is statutorily obliged to maintain certain embankments. The embankments in question do not, however, come within the ambit of the Act and my Office has no plans to repair the breaches in the bank.
