Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Water Quality.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

240 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the regulations in relation to the grant aid scheme for the provision or necessary improvement of an individual water supply to a house permit the application of grant aid in respect of water softening equipment where the equipment is deemed necessary for the improvement of water. [3601/99]

Works qualifying under the scheme include, inter alia, the provision or improvement of facilities or equipment for the treatment of water. Local authorities, which are responsible for the operation of the grants scheme may approve the provision of equipment of the type referred to in cases where the hardness of the water would make it otherwise unfit for domestic use.
