Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Computerisation Programme.

Ceist:

404 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details of the schools in Dublin that have availed of the IT 2000 programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3278/99]

All recognised primary schools and all post-primary schools in the free education scheme, in Dublin and throughout the country, have benefited from the Schools IT 2000 programme. All schools have received technology grants for the purchase of multimedia computers under the Technology Integration Initiative and a total of 2,290 teachers at first and second level in the Dublin area availed of ICT training programmes, approved by the National Centre for Technology in Education and my Department in 1998. Some 118 Dublin primary and post-primary schools have recently applied for inclusion in the schools integration project, SIP, a national initiative on innovative ICT development in schools and a further component of Schools IT 2000. I expect to announce the selected SIP schools in the very near future.
