14 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress, if any, made with regard to implementation of the wild salmon task force report; when the quota and tagging system will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3813/99]
I announced the 1999 salmon conservation and management measures on 7 February. A key component of management strategies to secure the future of wild salmon is the implementation of a tagging and quotas scheme, as recommended by the Salmon Management Task Force. Tagging will be introduced on 1 May for commercial and rod caught wild salmon and sea trout as a further critical step towards the introduction of a salmon quota scheme next year.
