Ceist:

87 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the local authorities which include family income supplement in assessing liability for differential rents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3887/99]

Local authorities are responsible, as an integral part of their housing management functions, for the determination of the rents of their dwellings and for decisions on the types of income to be taken into account in the assessment of rents. I have no proposals to change these arrangements which are in keeping with Government policy of maximum devolution of functions to local authorities. On the basis of the information available to my Department, I understand that the following include family income supplement in their rent assessment:
