Vol. 500 No. 5

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

80 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to allegations made against individuals named under privilege in the House of Commons in relation to the Kingsmill murders; if his attention has further been drawn to the serious implications for their safety and rights; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4504/99]

The Deputy can be assured that I am aware of the allegations and the serious implications for the individuals involved. I understand that a number of them are, in fact, considering legal action.

As statements made in the House of Commons are a matter of privilege, it is incumbent on all who enjoy this parliamentary privilege to act with responsibility, sensitivity, and due regard for the implications for any individuals named. This is, especially the case in the context of Northern Ireland.
