Vol. 500 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Order Prosecutions.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

59 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has examined the issue of public order prosecutions in connection with a parade in 1997 (details supplied); the steps, if any, taken in relation to the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4741/99]

The Deputy may be assured that I am fully aware of the cases to which he refers. The issue surrounding these cases has been raised previously with the British authorities through the framework of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference. Officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs met with representatives of the Table Campaign in connection with this matter on 29 January 1999. This has provided the basis for further discussions with the British authorities on the issue of public order prosecutions related to contentious parades. The issue will continue to be monitored closely by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
