145 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans, if any, she has to sanction funding to Iarnród Éireann to facilitate the addition of extra railcars on the rail link between Cork and Cobh; if she has received a request from the company on the issue; and if she will make a statement on the matter. CIE has submitted to my Department a review of investment needs for public transport in the greater Cork area. One of the conclusions reached in the review is that there is a need for additional diesel railcars for operation over the Mallow-Cork-Cobh suburban network. The proposals in the review are being considered in the context of the preparation of Ireland's application for post-1999 EU funding.
