Vol. 501 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fishing Vessel Safety.

David Stanton

Ceist:

84 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 79 of 26 November 1998, the detailed regulations concerning safety and guidelines applicable to all commercial sea angling boats, irrespective of length of voyage, have been drafted; when these will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5480/99]

My Department is actively engaged in preparing draft regulations to apply to all commercial sea angling boats, which will include standards for seaworthiness; construction machinery and maintenance; life saving appliances; fire fighting equipment and radio and navigation equipment. While a number of technical issues remain to be overcome, it remains my intention that the regulations will be adopted in advance of the main 1999 sea angling season.
