Joe Higgins

Ceist:

143 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if the Shannon Free Airport Development Company advise or make recommendations to companies intending to establish enterprises in the mid-west region in relation to pay levels for possible employees. [5699/99]

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

144 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if the Shannon Free Airport Development Company recommend to companies intending to establish enterprises in the mid-west region specific pay levels for workers; and if it recommends pay levels for the general operative grades in these enterprises. [5700/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 143 and 144 together.

It is not the role of Shannon Development to advise or recommend on pay levels. This is a matter for the companies themselves.

I am advised by Shannon Development that it does not recommend or advise foreign investors on pay levels.

However, in the course of its work, the agency is sometimes asked by potential investors for details of average salaries-wages. In such cases, Shannon Development would normally refer the companies to recruitment agencies or assist the inquirer by obtaining details of average salaries-wages from recruitment agencies and pass them on to the company.
