Written Answers. - Credit Union Taxation.
I set up a working group to examine the taxation of returns on credit union savings bearing in mind the special and particular nature of the credit union movement, their contribution to Irish society and the wider taxation issues involved.
The independent chairman presented the report of the working group to me on 1 October 1998. I am considering the report of the working group at present but have come to no conclusions so far. In my view, the report is a careful and complete examination of the issues concerning the taxation of credit unions and I will be studying it in this light.
