Vol. 501 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hearing Impairment Claims.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

94 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Defence if he is considering introducing any legislation to deal with the deafness compensation claims. [4892/99]

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

135 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence if he has completed his consideration of changing legislation in relation to Army deafness cases to redress the balance in favour of the common good; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5027/99]

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

195 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Defence the legislation, if any, he will introduce to deal with the deafness compensation claims. [4935/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 94, 135 and 195 together.

At present there are no plans for dealing with hearing loss claims by means of new legislation, but this may have to be reviewed when the outcome of future Supreme Court decisions on hearing loss appeals are known.
