Vol. 501 No. 2

Written Answers. - Military Police.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

120 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Defence the decisions, if any, taken regarding the future use of military police in Leinster House; the current position in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5026/99]

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

210 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Defence the decisions, if any, taken regarding the future use of military police in Leinster House; the current position in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5113/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 120 and 210 together.

The disestablishment of the Military Police Company at Government Buildings was proposed in the Defence Force Review Implementation Plan, 1996-1998. The Government decided that the proposal be referred to the inter-departmental national security group for further consideration.

The matter is being considered in the context of a review of security at Government Buildings being conducted by the Garda Síochána.

I do not consider that operational security matters can be properly addressed in the House.
