58 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the amount of administration costs approved by his Department in the implementation of the European scheme agreed under the MacSharry CAP reform programme; the percentage cost of this in comparison to the amount of money paid out; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6516/99]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): The total expenditure in 1997, the latest year for which we have audited figures, for EU related expenditure is £1,528 million. The administrative costs for that year were £122 million, or 6 per cent of the Departments total expenditure of £2,042 million. The administrative cost attaching to EU related expenditures is estimated as also of the order of 6 per cent.
