Vol. 501 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Treatment.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

87 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will assist in returning to his own country a person (details supplied) who is an American citizen and in hospital in Ireland in view of the particular circumstances of his hospitalisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6563/99]

The determination of eligibility of an individual for medical treatment and the provision of that treatment is a matter for the relevant health board or agency. The question of facilitating the return of the person in question to the USA is also a matter for the relevant agency. I have asked the chief executive officer of the North-Western Health Board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
