Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fox Hunting.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

189 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the correspondence, if any, he has received from the Waterford branch of the Irish Council Against Blood Sports in relation to the activities of the Dungarvan Foxhounds; and, if so, his response to the issues raised. [6793/99]

My Department recently received a fax from the Waterford support group of the Irish Council Against Blood Sports which contained a number of allegations involving trespass, damage to private property and obstruction of public roadways.

My Department has replied to this fax, pointing out that neither I nor my Department has any function in dealing with such allegations and cannot assume roles and responsibilities properly assigned by law to others in relation to such matters. Our established legal framework already provides the means by which the individual at the centre of such allegations can, should he so choose, pursue the matters arising in this case.
