Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

209 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance if the assessment of the flood relief, environmental impact statement, health and safety report and engineering report has been completed in respect of the proposed scheme for the relief of flooding in Kilkenny city; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6751/99]

Because the Kilkenny city flood relief scheme is a particularly sensitive one, the Office of Public Works has been in detailed consultation with the local authorities in Kilkenny with regard to their preferences on how to proceed. The details of their preferred option are now incorporated into an engineering report which has now been passed to the environmental consultants for finalisation of the environmental impact statement. The archaeology assessment has also been completed. The health and safety arrangements are up to date commensurate with the progress of the scheme at this stage. It is envisaged that public exhibition will take place in approximately mid May 1999 as previously indicated.
