Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Grants

John Perry

Ceist:

278 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 676 of 27 January 1999, his attention has been drawn to the fact that all the information in relation to an application for a new house grant for persons (details supplied) in County Donegal has been mislaid by the contractor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6752/99]

The position is as outlined in the reply to Question No. 676 of 27 Juanuary 1999.

A further application form for a new house grant is being issued for completion by the applicants and return fully completed, including certification of the applicants' and the contractor's tax details, to the Department in order that the appliation can be considered.

Ceist:

279 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the extra grants available from his Department to a person registered blind, who is building a new house to provide facilities which would accommodate her handicap; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6753/99]

Subject to the terms of the scheme, applicants who are building or purchasing a new house for the first time may qualify for a £3,000 new house grant from my Department.

The scheme recognises the special housing needs of people with disabilities. Where a specifically designed new house is being provided to suit the needs of a disabled person, the normal requirement that an applicant be a first time purchaser and the limitation on the floor area of the house may be waived to allow a £3,000 new house grant to be paid.
