Ceist:

395 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will ensure that the planning process for an extension to Enfield national school, County Meath, will begin immediately in order that no overcrowding problems will arise in the future in view of the massive growth of population in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6673/99]

My Department is currently evaluating an architectural feasibility study of Enfield national school, County Meath, and assessing enrolment trends. When this work has been completed, my Department will be in further contact with the school management. The school is aware of the position.

Ceist:

396 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will begin the planning process for an extension to Longwood secondary school, County Meath, in view of the population growth being experienced in south Meath; the future development plans, if any, his Department has for the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6674/99]

My Departments planning and building unit has not received any application from County Meath Vocational Education Committee for an extension of Longwood vocational school, County Meath. In the event of an application being received it will be processed as speedily as possible.

I should also mention that a submission has been received in my Department from the Enfield environment group, County Meath, proposing the establishment of a post-primary school in Enfield. Enfield is located about six miles from Longwood and for planning and transport purposes is shared between the Longwood and Kilcock catchment areas. This application is being examined at present.
