The European Social Fund-aided third level courses maintenance grants scheme for trainees 1998 applies to those who require higher level initial education and training to enhance their employment prospects in line with the Government's sectoral employment priorities and who are entering approved middle level technician or higher technical and business skills courses for the first time in the 1998-99 academic year or mature candidates re-entering in order to complete such a course.
As the candidate, to whom the Deputy refers, has already completed two years of a national certificate in electronic engineering he is not entering an approved MLT or HTBS course for the first time, in the current academic year. Accordingly he is ineligible for grant assistance and for free tuition fees to pursue a MLT or HTBS course.
