79 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the position regarding the payment of an islander allowance as committed in An Action Programme for the Millennium; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6907/99]

The question of a special islander allowance is under consideration having been discussed with the relevant authorities and by the interdepartmental committee on the islands, the Gaeltacht and the Irish language. No decision has been made on the matter.
