Vol. 502 No. 2

Written Answers. - Services for People with Disabilities.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

73 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 298 of 23 February 1999, he will further clarify the situation regarding the South Eastern Health Board co-ordinating committee for people with physical and sensory disabilities (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7449/99]

I am pleased, as a result of the further information provided by the Deputy, to be in a position to clarify the situation in relation to further representation on the South-Eastern Health Board's co-ordinating committee for physical and sensory disability services.

In accordance with agreed guidelines, the co-ordinating committee for physical and sensory disability services in the South-Eastern Health Board was established in 1998 and has a membership of 16 individuals representing the health board and the voluntary sector. The interests of service users are represented on the committee by members with disabilities as well as two representatives of the Irish Council of People with Disabilities.
The South-Eastern Health Board will shortly be reviewing the work of the co-ordinating committee and considering proposals for its future development. The Irish Council of People with Disabilities, through its membership on the co-ordinating committee, will be taking part in this process.
