Vol. 502 No. 4

Written Answers. - Infrastructural Development.

Ceist:

131 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of public-private partnership infrastructural projects currently being considered by his Department; the number of such projects advanced since the Government's statement in 1998 welcoming this model of infrastructural development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8536/99]

I refer to my reply to Question No. 275 of 9 March 1999 in which I listed 13 potential PPP projects within my area of responsibility. All of these projects are being advanced as quickly as possible and contracts in relation to the projects, Osberstown wastewater treatment and national car testing projects were signed during the period referred to.

The possibility of a PPP approach is still at an early stage of consideration by the Department and the National Roads Authority for approximately 15 further projects. These include a number of selected road projects, water supply and waste water treatment proposals, solid waste facilities. My Department has also had contact with the house building sector with a view to advancing medium sized developer led water service projects to open up land zoned for housing development.
